The Adventure Girls Club Cornwall Walking Weekend

What a weekend! It was our third weekender since I launched the club, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say we had so much fun - there were 21 of us, all there to hike and connect in the outdoors.

We stayed at YHA Tintagel, a beautiful hostel right on the cliff tops of the North Coast of Cornwall, with beautiful views out to sea and a prime spot to watch the sunset. It’s an old quarry house from when the slate quarries were open back in the early 1900s and has lots of history. It’s also right on the coast path, perfect for starting our walk on the Saturday.

On Friday night, the girls started arriving from 6pm onwards. It was a chance for everyone to get settled in, meet each other and catch up with those who have met before.

We woke up to beautiful sunshine on Saturday morning and feasted on a breakfast of Porridge, fruit, yoghurt and a cooked veggie breakfast to give us plenty of fuel for the long day of hiking ahead.

Once we had packed our day bags, we set off for our first hike right from the hostel door. We walked along the coast path to Trebarwith Strand - a beautiful beach when the tide is out and a rocky bay when it’s in (which is what we saw).

We then started to head inland and up a steep hill and along a beautiful lane with views all across to the coast path. We then dropped down to Rocky Valley where we ate lunch and walked in awe along the rock formations and waterfalls back towards the coast path.

We carried along the coast path past the secret beaches of Benoath Cove and Bossiney Haven.

Further along the coast path we were rewarded with views all across to Tintagel Castle and all the settlements from as far back as the 5th Century AD as well the 13th Century Castle itself. The headland is full of history and we all chatted about the myths, legends, history and theories from the area.

When we got to the headland we dropped down to the small beach where we explored Merlin’s Cave and the epic waterfall which falls into the beach.

After spending a bit of time exploring the beach we re-joined the coast path and walked the small distance back to the hostel where we ate scones and cake, drank tea,  had a well-deserved hot shower and got into our PJs to relax for the evening.

After some time to relax, we all ate a hearty sweet potato and spinach Dhal, with plenty of flatbreads, pickles and sides and chocolate cake for pudding (yum!). We carried on chatting and playing games for a bit before succumbing to our tiredness and heading to bed.

The next morning, we woke to another beautiful sunny day and ate another filling breakfast and packed up the hostel ready to leave for our second hike of the weekend.

We drove over to Boscastle where we began our 8km hike through the harbour and up onto the rugged and hilly coast path. We hiked past bright yellow gorse and over waterfalls before walking inland through some lanes and back along a pretty valley.

We finished the weekend with a hot chocolate in Feel Good Cafe in Boscastle before saying our goodbyes and driving home.

Thank you to everyone who came on this weekend trip, you all made it so special and I’m really excited for the next one!
