  • How do I pack for a wild camp?
  • Where am I allowed to camp, what are the rules?
  • How do I find a good wild camping spot?
  • How do I prepare for the weather?
  • What food do I take with me?
  • What do I do about drinking water?
  • What do I do if I need to use a toilet or have my period?
  • How do I keep myself safe?
  • What if I feel scared? How do I manage the feeling of fear?
  • What happens if things go wrong, how can I solve it?
  • What are the best environmental practices?

ITINERARY:

Pre-trip webinar: 6.30 pm Wednesday 21st May or 2nd August

To ensure everyone is fully prepared and comfortable for our wild camping weekend, we are excited to offer an exclusive online webinar approximately one month before our trip. This preparatory session is designed to help you understand exactly what to pack and why, giving you the confidence to enjoy your adventure to the fullest.

During this interactive webinar, we will cover:

Essential Gear: A detailed walkthrough of the personal camping gear you will need, including recommendations for tents, sleeping bags, camping mats, backpacks, food, suitable clothing and other essential equipment. We will discuss options for different budgets and preferences.

Q&A Session: This is a chance to ask any questions you have about the trip, gear, or itinerary. It is a great opportunity to address any concerns and get personalised advice from our experienced guides.

We strongly recommend attendance as this webinar will prepare you for our trip and enhance your overall outdoor skills for future adventures. If you are unable to attend the live session, a recording will be made available to all registered participants.

This pre-trip webinar is included in the cost of your weekend adventure and is part of our commitment to ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for all attendees. We look forward to helping you get ready for an unforgettable journey into the wild!

Tintagel Weekend Trip Hike, Cornwall -The Adventure Girls Club-3

Day 1: Arrival and Campsite Introduction

  • Meet at our reserved campsite, the Three Hares Campsite in Dartmoor from 4pm onwards for introductions and setup. The guides will be on hand to help you set up your tents and kit.
  • Tour of everyone's camp setup and talk through the kit
  • Make your camp dinner and practise using your outdoor cooking kit.
  • Evening mindset workshop all about fear and how to use it to your advantage.

Day 2: Stepping into the Wild

  • 8am: Breakfast workshop covering the basics of wild camping, including how to pack your bag effectively, minimum impact practices, hygiene and safety tips. Together we will also talk through our route and decide where we think it would be best to camp for the weather forecast.
  • 12 pm: We will pack up for our excursion onto the moors. We will drive over to Belstone Car Park, where we will split into two groups of four with one guide per group. We will then walk for around 3-4 hours onto the moor, taking it nice and slow with plenty of stops to admire the scenery and discuss local flora and fauna.
  • Hands-on practice in navigation and using camping equipment in a wild setting.
  • Set up our wild camp for the night. This is a great chance to apply what you’ve learned, with guides available to assist and offer tips.
  • Have dinner and settle into our tents for the night

Day 3: Reflection and Farewell

  • Breakfast at our wild camp, where we will chat about how the night went and reflect on our experiences and skills learned.
  • Pack up camp, ensuring we leave no trace.
  • Hike back to the car park via a river for a refreshing cold water swim.
  • Finish at a pub where we can have a well-earned drink and food before heading home.
  • Departure around lunchtime (depending on whether you stay at the pub).

"Had the best weekend away in Dartmoor with Alice and a lovely group of women from the adventure girls club. The trip was so inclusive, really well planned and good fun. I feel really confident to do some solo wild camping after the informative weekend and looking forward to doing another hike with the adventure girls club."

She wanted to create a softer antidote to the extreme, goal-oriented, ego-centric attitude to the outdoors. Alice is also a qualified mountain leader and loves sharing her love for the outdoors with women who lack the confidence to go themselves.

Melissa Schubert

Mountain Leader

Mel is a Rock Climbing Instructor and Mountain Leader, passionate about building a community, working with people to expand their potential, and engaging in all things adventurous in beautiful green and blue spaces.

Safety

I like to make these hikes as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so I keep a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on these events, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns.

All our hike leaders are qualified and hold a level 3 Outdoor First Aid certificate so will be on hand in case of an emergency.
